After more than three decades of dedication to the Rett syndrome community, we honor the remarkable careers and lasting impact of Dr. Alan Percy and Jane Lane, who officially retired at the end of 2025.
Dr. Percy’s contributions helped shape how Rett syndrome is understood, diagnosed, and cared for worldwide. For countless families and clinicians, his leadership brought clarity, credibility, and hope at a time when answers were few and the path forward was uncertain.
Alongside him, Jane’s compassion, clinical expertise, and deep connection to families made an indelible mark of her own. As she shared with us, “Knowing and providing care for persons with Rett syndrome and their families for the last 32 years has shaped my life professionally and personally in profound ways.” Through close relationships with families—long before today’s research advances—she witnessed firsthand both the challenges and the progress that have defined this field.
Together, Alan and Jane have seen the Rett landscape evolve from the pre-genetic testing era to today’s growing momentum around research, treatments, and therapies. They also built deep, lasting relationships with colleagues in the U.S. and around the world—collaborations rooted in respect, shared purpose, and genuine affection. As Jane so simply put it: “What an honor this has been.”
Join us in thanking Dr. Percy and Jane for their extraordinary commitment, leadership, and care—and for the legacy they leave behind in this community and in the lives they have touched.![]()
